Health Care Legal Services (HCLS) contracts with various hospitals to help their patients obtain coverage through Medi-Cal and/or government programs available to pay for the patient's hospital bill.
The staff at HCLS are experts in processing difficult applications, qualifying patients prior to discharge, locating patients after discharge and obtaining the assistance of patients in the application process. In addition, the staff is skilled in pursuing denied application through the state's fair hearing process.
HCLS’ founders, working with Medi-Cal and Victims of Crime patients, observed the loss of revenue to hospitals and clinics due to patients’ inability to obtain eligibility for such government programs. Failure to establish eligibility for a significant number of potentially qualified patients resulted from uncooperative patients, Medi-Cal denials, loss of patient contact, and/or the patient’s lack of knowledge regarding requirements and/or benefits of government programs.
Furthermore, HCLS is a recognized leader in maximizing reimbursement under the Medi-Cal and Victims of Crime program and other third party payers. We maintain excellent rapport with:

HCLS maintains a regular reporting system for each facility with regular on-site visitation, in-services, as well as providing customized electronic reports to ensure maximum communication.
HCLS' management and staff members have a combined total of over one hundred thirty years in Medi-Cal related experience. The management includes administrators, legal counsel, staff physician, and managers. The staff consists of highly skilled eligibility workers with a history of Medi-Cal training, in-house training and past employment experience with county social service departments; field investigators, social workers, accounting, and clerical personnel. The eligibility staff members work, on and off site, as requested our staff has multilingual capabilities to better assist our patients.
